Spring Revolution Daily News for 17 May 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG and Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG have been in South Korea. According to the NUG Representative Office in Korea, the Ministers will meet with Korean MPs.

· With the invitation of the Japanese Government, the NUG Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Chair of Karen National Union P’doh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Chair of Karenni National Progressive Party Khu Oo Reh and Secretary of Chin National Front have been in Japan. Reportedly, they met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan and discussed Myanmar affairs.

· In Japan, the Chair of the KNU and the Minister of the NUG told media that the revolution forces have been able to control about 65% of Myanmar.

· According to the NUG Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Japan raised questions with great concern for the wellbeing of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Revolution Activities

· According to the State Minister, they would soon collect the biometric of Myanmar refugees in Mizoram State of India.

· In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army attacked the revolution forces in Ywar Shay Village for two days. Reportedly, 4 people lost their lives and the whole village was burnt down.

· According to Kayan PDF, they will join hands with the forces preparing to attack the target of Yangon. With systematic structure, precise policies and firm objectives, they will fight the military junta.

· In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, there was a mine attack on an administration office.

· In Gantgaw Township of Magway Region, about 200 junta soldiers and Pyusawti Militia from Myauk Khinyan Village have been invading the near-by villages. Consequently, they have had battles against the PDFs.

· In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army had conducted an airstrike on a school in Magyioat Village. One more injured victim lost their life, the number of fatalities rising to 8 people.

· In Pale Township, a social group provided hats to over 450 fire victims at the time of intense heat.

· No. (3) PDF of Sagaing District completed their basic military training including the youth who protest against the junta’s Military Service Law.

· In Yay Township of Mon State, Yay-Balu Force made an inspection on No. (8) Road. They checked a phone belonging to a son of a junta sergeant and found suspicious items. Therefore, they detained him for investigation.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· On Wednesday, Arakan National Council-Arakan Army sent a statement of sorrow for the loss of the Commander in Chief of Kachin Independence Organization-Kachin Independence Army.

· In Sisai Township of Southern Shan State, the junta’s Pa-O National Organization took away the head of Naungbo Kandawle Village. They have not freed him yet even after over 10 days, according to Pa-O National Liberation Army.

· In Cumin, the military junta and the Three Brotherhood Alliance got started with their discussion with the help of the Chinese government.

· In Tanai Township of Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army took control of the frontline camp of the junta armed forces Ka-La-Ya (297) and Ka-La-Ya (260) on Thursday morning.

· In Chin State, Chin National Front-Chin National Army started their attack on the junta army based in Tunzan on Thursday.

The Military Council

· Despite the internet and telecom shut down from Thailand, Kyar Phyant gambling gangs have been using MyTel Telecom Network under control of the military junta.

· On Wednesday morning, a delegation led by the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Rotating Chair to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Alounkeo KITTIK HOUN and the Secretary General of the ASEAN Dr. KAO KIM HOURN met with the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.

· In Ayeyarwady Region, there was a grenade attack on a junta administration office in Laputta.

· According to Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation, there will be more power outages in Yangon due to a leakage of the Zawtika Gas Pipeline.

· The junta’s Union Election Commission stated that they had rejected the application of the Chin People’s Party which failed to meet the provisions contained in Article (4) of the Political Parties Registration Law.

Summary on 17 May

· Due to the power hunger of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, not only Myanmar people but also the international community including neighbouring countries have had to suffer and they have had to try hard to resolve the crisis.
